The Epistle of Enoch
The Book of Enoch has survived complete only in Ge'ez, in the Bible of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, whose canon is wider than that of any other church. It is a collection of five books, and the fifth, the Epistle of Enoch, closes the whole. It is the most personal part: Enoch no longer travels through heaven but speaks to his children as an old father before his death — about justice, riches, suffering and death. He sums up the history of the world in ten "weeks", pronounces woes on those who oppress the weak, and promises the righteous who died in sorrow that they will shine like the lights of heaven.

About this book
This is the fourth notebook of the series "The Ethiopian Bible". It contains 1 Enoch 91–108: Enoch's last will to Methuselah and his brothers — love uprightness, do not walk with a double heart; the Apocalypse of Weeks, all history in ten weeks, to a new heaven; the long chain of woes against those who build their houses on oppression and trust in their riches; the sailors who fear the sea while sinners do not fear the One who made it; the fate of the dead and the promise written on the heavenly tablets. The notebook closes with the birth of Noah — a child whose body is white as snow and whose eyes light the whole house like the sun — and with "another book which Enoch wrote", about the generation of light. The text is R. H. Charles's translation from the Ge'ez (1912), word for word, without cuts.
