The Parables of Enoch
The Book of Enoch is not one work but a collection of five, and it has survived complete only in Ge'ez, in the Bible of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, whose canon is wider than that of any other church. Its second part, the Parables — or Similitudes — of Enoch, holds a figure found nowhere else in the book: the Elect One, the Righteous One, the Son of Man, hidden before the world was made, who sits on the throne of glory and judges the kings and the mighty of the earth. For many readers these are the most important chapters of the whole book, because their language is so close to that of the Gospels.

About this book
This is the second notebook of the series "The Ethiopian Bible". It contains the whole second part of 1 Enoch, chapters 37–71: Enoch's three parables — the dwellings of the righteous and the four presences Michael, Raphael, Gabriel and Phanuel; Wisdom, who found no home among people; the Head of Days, whose head is white like wool; the six mountains of metal that melt like wax; Leviathan in the depths of the sea and Behemoth in the desert; the kings who fall on their faces before the Son of Man. Between the visions lie the fragments in which Noah speaks — the names of the fallen angels and the secret oath that holds the world in order — and at the end Enoch himself is taken up and sees a house built of crystals, surrounded by living fire. The text is R. H. Charles's translation from the Ge'ez (1912), word for word, without cuts.
