The Secrets of Enoch
Genesis gives Enoch only a few verses: he "walked with God, and he was not, for God took him". The Book of the Secrets of Enoch tells the whole journey. In his 365th year, resting on his bed, Enoch sees two enormous men with faces shining like the sun, and they carry him up through the heavens — past the fallen angels hanging in darkness, paradise with the tree of life, the sun with its singing Phoenixes and Chalkydri, the silent Grigori — to the tenth heaven, where he sees the face of the Lord. There God himself reveals to him how the world was made, and Enoch writes 366 books.

About this book
This is the fifth and last notebook of the series "The Ethiopian Bible". An honest note: this book, usually called 2 Enoch or Slavonic Enoch, is NOT part of the Ethiopian canon and was not preserved in Ge'ez at all. It has come down to us only in Old Church Slavonic manuscripts, and its date and origin remain an open question. It is included because it continues the same tradition about Enoch and completes the series. The notebook gives all 68 chapters: the two men at the bedside, the first three heavens, the sun, the Phoenixes and the moon, the fifth to the tenth heaven, the secrets of creation — Adoil and Archas, Adam made from seven substances — the eighth day and Enoch's return, his teaching to his sons (every person bears the likeness of God's face; do not harm even an animal), and his departure at Achuzan. The text is W. R. Morfill's translation from the Slavonic, edited by R. H. Charles (1896), word for word, without cuts.
